With all due respect to 3 Sheets, our favorite NY bar and Sunday home-away-from-home, we had a fairly memorable January 11, 2015. Also, for everyone in the freezing northern hemisphere and/or sitting at work on Monday morning, please accept our preemptive apologies...
The day got off to a rocky start, as the Patriots were struggling and losing to the Ravens when the clock struck midnight. However, by 3 am, the day improved as we watched the Patriots hold on for a dramatic win.
Following the game and what amounted to a quick nap, we got up and walked to the beach.
The beach here is beautiful, but when you throw in the surrounding mountains, it really feels like something special (many, many more pictures to come in future posts on Cape Town).
We then headed over to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, for their Sunday "summer sunset" concert. We had no idea who was actually playing (although we heard they are a very popular South African band), but the location and scenery made that point irrelevant.
Kind of blows Great Woods away, no? You just show up, grab a seat on the huge, sloped lawn and just relax for a few hours in the sunshine. Oh, and did we mention it was BYO food and drinks? So it essentially amounted to a picnic on a gorgeous sunny day with a little music going on in the background.
In fact, our biggest problem of the day was figuring out a way to not spill our wine. Turns out it was nothing a little drunken creativity couldn't solve.
Most importantly though, we were lucky to share the great experience with two friends: Mia, from Amherst who is teaching in Cape Town, and Bash.
We already have tickets for the concert next Sunday too. And still have no clue who's playing.
Finally, no Sunday would be complete without a little more football and some appropriate snacks. So we got home from the concert and settled in with some homemade nachos and the Packers-Cowboys game.
Today was a good day.
